The Quinta is a small British-run estate of privately owned villas set in some 24 acres about 8 kms west of Albufeira. "Quinta" means farm in Portuguese - quinta da saudade nestles in the peaceful country setting of an old hillside farm estate and set amid olive, orange and almond trees is just under 50 kilometres from the nearest international airport at Faro - a drive of about 45 minutes. The nearest beach, less than three kms away, is a superb stretch of sand bounded by dunes and here you can always escape the crowds even in the height of summer. There are many country walks in the vicinity; on the way to the beach there is a protected wetlands nature reserve with a host of bird life - for example, avocet, black winged stilt, flamingo, squacco heron, swamp hen, red crested pochard, turnstone and many others. There are two swimming pools, a children's play area and pool, tennis court (racquets and balls available) mini golf course, table tennis, petanque - you can also enjoy a drink and an excellent meal at the Quinta restaurant and bar. Living at the riding stables on the estate are several horses, and a pony, which enjoy being taken out for rides and gallops across the countryside. There is a charge for the riding and tennis. Close by is the Salgados Golf course - visitors to the Quinta receive discounted membership.  |
